The Chicago-based National Stock Exchange has reported that the assets of US-listed exchange-traded funds and exchange-traded notes reached USD609bn at the end of last month, an increase of 27 percent from USD478bn at the end of April 2007.
ETF net cash inflows in April totalled USD36m and notional trading volume during the month reached USD1.6trn, according to the NSX Month-End ETF/ETN Data Report, the latest in a series launched last June.
The exchange says the number of US-listed ETFs has increased by 49 per cent over the past year, from 496 in April 2007 to 740, while the number of issuers of ETFs and ETNs has grown from 18 to 33.
The NSX monthly statistics include shares of open-end exchange-traded products, including listed shares of investment companies, grantor trusts, ETNs and commodity pools.
