State Street unveils new international SPDR ETFs

State Street Global Advisors, the investment management arm of State Street Corporation, has announced the launch of two new SPDR exchange-traded funds on the American Stock Exchange.
State Street Global Advisors, the investment management arm of State Street Corporation, has announced the launch of two new SPDR exchange-traded funds on the American Stock Exchange.

According to State Street, the new ETFs have been developed to provide investors with targeted exposure to segments of the global market. The SPDR DJ Wilshire Global Real Estate ETF seeks to mirror an index comprising more than 240 commercial and residential real estate companies in 23 throughout the world, while the SPDR S&P International Mid Cap ETF is based on an index encompassing more than 850 companies with market capitalisation between USD2bn and USD5bn in 25 developed countries outside the US.

‘Offering a level of international diversification that has not been readily accessible in the past, the SPDR S&P International Mid Cap ETF was developed to meet increasing investor demand for more high quality international portfolio management tools,’ says State Street senior managing director James Ross.

‘With the addition of the SPDR DJ Wilshire Global Real Estate ETF, our family of SPDRs ETFs now provides investors with distinct exposure to the domestic, international and global real estate markets.’

State Street Global Advisors is one of the largest ETF providers in the US and worldwide. At the end of March, assets under management in State Street’s US ETFs totalled more than USD148.2bn, up from USD103.3bn a year earlier.
