Morgan Stanley has disbanded its exchange-traded research team, headed by London-based Deborah Fuhr, as part of a cost-saving exercise, following Fuhr’s departure from the investment bank last week.
The move has shocked the investment community, where Fuhr is acknowledged as one of the leading experts in the ETF sector. At Morgan Stanley for a decade and a managing director since 2006, Fuhr headed the bank’s investment strategies group, which helped institutional clients implement asset allocation strategies using products including swaps, certificates, futures, index funds and other derivatives as well as ETFs.
It has been reported that Morgan Stanley could shed at least 350 jobs in the UK as part of a reduction in staff numbers across the group. There has been no suggestion that Fuhr’s departure and the disbanding of her team are related to performance issues.
