ETF Securities, the leading European issuer of exchange-traded commodities, has expanded its sales team with the appointment of Nigel Longley, who becomes sales director responsible for the German and Austrian markets, reflecting the rapid growth of the firm’s business in the two countries with more than USD500m in assets under management.

Longley was previously head of corporate broking at Commerzbank in Frankfurt with responsibility for a team of five professionals covering German small and medium-sized companies. Earlier he spent 20 years advising international institutional investors on the German equity market with firms including Deutsche Bank and Credit Agricole Cheuvreux.

He joins Tim Harvey and Michael Geister as dedicated representatives covering the German and Austrian markets, where ETF Securities recently listed 66 short and leveraged ETCs on Deutsche Börse’s XTF segment. The market is by far the largest ETF segment in Europe, accounting for more than 40 per cent of total European trading volume.

ETF Securities has also recruited Rachel Kersey-Brown, who previously worked in private and structured finance, to the sales team for the UK and Ireland as a sales associate.

ETF Securities now offers more than 120 ETCs offering investors the ability to implement various commodity investment strategies with a choice of physical, long, forward, leveraged and short exposure to a wide range of sectors. The firm’s ETCs are traded in euros, US dollars and sterling and listed on the London Stock Exchange, Euronext Paris, Euronext Amsterdam, Deutsche Börse and Borsa Italiana, each of which have trading volumes of between USD600m and USD800m a week. ETF Securities now has more than USD5.9bn in assets, up from USD1bn in June 2007.

‘Gathering USD5.9bn in assets in such a short time is simply staggering,’ says the firm’s head of sales and marketing, Hector McNeil. ‘It clearly shows that ETF Securities has developed the right products at the right time.

‘Nigel Longley brings a wealth of sales and marketing and commodities experience to the teams and his hiring shows our commitment to the German and Austrian, markets, where we have significant take up of ETCs across all investor classes. Nigel has a superb background having worked at a very senior level for more than 20 years in Frankfurt.’
