Deutsche Bank has launched Elements exchange-traded notes linked to the Benjamin Graham Intelligent Value Indices created by the Nuveen HydePark Group, which are listed on the NYSE Arca market and distributed by Nuveen Investments and Merrill Lynch.
The ETNs offer investors exposure to indices based on the investment philosophy of Benjamin Graham, which seeks to identify businesses with strong, liquid balance sheets that trade at a discount to their implied intrinsic value.
The Benjamin Graham Large Cap Value Elements, Benjamin Graham Small Cap Value Elements and Benjamin Graham Total Market Value Elements ETNs are senior unsecured obligations of Deutsche Bank that are linked to the performance of the Benjamin Graham large cap, small cap and total market total return value indices.
‘The Elements ETNs linked to the Benjamin Graham Intelligent Value Indices offer a convenient way to access Graham’s pioneering investment philosophy,’ says Michael Nadel, a director in the global markets division at Deutsche Bank. ‘We are pleased again to partner with Nuveen and Merrill Lynch to bring innovative products to market.’
Elements ETNs seek to track the return of specific underlying market indices and to provide convenient access to strategies and markets that traditionally have not been readily available to individual investors. They can be purchased or sold through brokers, financial advisors and most trading platforms.
‘Benjamin Graham advocated a consistent, objective investment style based on seeking out high-quality businesses with strong liquid balance sheets – a concept that would later come to be known as value investing,’ says Nuveen Investments managing director Michael Forstl. ‘We’re pleased to offer investors, through the exchange-traded note structure, a quantitative approach to value investing designed and implemented by our HydePark team.’
Nuveen HydePark, which was founded in 1984 and specialises in enhanced, risk-controlled investment strategies, is one of a range of brands under which Nuveen offers investment products and services to institutional and high net worth investors as well as the consultants and financial advisors who serve them. Nuveen Investments had USD153bn in assets under management at the end of March.
