The combined assets of US-listed exchange traded funds totalled USD495.38bn in January, including the value of shares issued and redeemed by exchange traded funds, according to the Investment Company Institute.

Assets of all ETFs fell in January by USD35.91bn, or 6.8 per cent, to USD495.38bn. Over the past 12 months, ETF assets decreased USD73.35bn, or 12.9 per cent.

Assets in domestic equity ETFs decreased USD40.64bn since January 2008, and global equity ETFs assets fell USD57.15bn during this period. Assets of bond funds were USD62.19bn and hybrid funds were USD125m.

During January, the value of all ETF shares redeemed exceeded that of shares issued by USD17m. In January 2008, ETFs experienced net redemptions of USD4.43bn.
