US exchange-traded fund turnover declined two per cent in the week to 16 March, according to Deutsche Bank researchers Aram Flores and Shan Lan.

US exchange-traded fund turnover declined two per cent in the week to 16 March, according to Deutsche Bank researchers Aram Flores and Shan Lan.

Monthly average daily turnover was USD88.4bn.

Turnover in the S&P 500 SPDR was USD30.4bn. The UltraShort S&P 500 ProShares had turnover of USD5.9bn followed by the PowerShares QQQ Nasdaq 100 with turnover of USD5.1bn.

There was one new ETF launched in the week to 16 March. State Street GA listed a fixed income-based ETF on NYSE Arca.

Short-related ETF turnover slightly rose to USD17.2bn, being the second largest category of ETFs after large cap ETFs.

Among the emerging country ETFs turnover in the iShares FTSE/Xinhua China ETF was USD1.0bn followed by the iShares MSCI Brazil ETF with turnover of USD888m.

In developed market flows iShares MSCI Japan had turnover of USD296m.

In non-domestic regional flows, emerging market turnover was USD1.9bn; in developed markets regional flows EAFE had turnover of USD1.3bn.

Total assets under management for equity based ETFs rose by 12 per cent on the previous week, with AUM reaching USD354bn.
