US exchange-traded fund turnover declined 3.3 per cent to USD86.4bn in the week to 30 March, according to Deutsche Bank research.

Turnover in the S&P 500 SPDR was USD30.6bn. The UltraShort S&P500 ProShares had turnover of USD5.3bn followed by the PowerShares QQQ Nasdaq 100 with turnover of USD5.0bn.

There was one new ETF launched in the week. IndexIQ Advisors listed the first US-listed ETF aiming to replicate hedge fund exposure. This fund is listed at NYSE Arca.

Short-related ETF turnover declined 10.2 per cent to USD14.7bn, being the second largest category of ETFs after the large cap ETFs.

Among the emerging country ETFs, iShares FTSE/Xinhua China ETF turnover was USD1,088m followed by the iShares MSCI Brazil ETF with turnover of USD901m.

In non-US developed market flows, iShares MSCI Japan had turnover of USD318m. In non-domestic regional flows, emerging market turnover was USD2.1bn and developed markets regional flows EAFE had turnover of USD1.3bn.

Total assets under management for equity-based ETFs declined 4.0 per cent on the previous week to USD366bn.
