US exchange-traded fund turnover declined 3.3 per cent to USD71.3bn in the week to 4 May, according to research from Deutsche Bank.

US exchange-traded fund turnover declined 3.3 per cent to USD71.3bn in the week to 4 May, according to research from Deutsche Bank.

Turnover in the S&P 500 SPDR was USD24.0bn. The PowerShares QQQ Nasdaq 100 had turnover of USD4.5bn followed by the UltraShort S&P500 ProShares with turnover of USD3.1bn.

There was one new ETF launched. State Street GA launched a fixed income ETF tracking the mortgage finance segment of the US financial services industry. This new fund is listed at NYSE Arca.

Average daily turnover for the short and large cap related products declined by 7.8 per cent and by 5.6 per cent respectively. Whilst turnover for the leveraged and US sector ETFs remained around the same level.

Among the emerging country ETFs, iShares MSCI Brazil ETF turnover was USD837m followed by the iShares FTSE/Xinhua China ETF with turnover of USD817m. In non-US developed market flows, iShares MSCI Japan had turnover of USD254m. In non-domestic regional flows, emerging market turnover was USD2.0bn and developed markets regional flows EAFE had turnover of USD1.2bn.
