US exchange-traded fund turnover declined by 1.6 per cent to USD56.3bn in the week ending 27 July, according to Deutsche Bank researchers Shan Lan and Aram Flores.

Turnover in the S&P 500 SPDR was USD17.8bn. The PowerShares QQQ Nasdaq 100 had turnover of USD4.2bn followed by the iShares Russell 2000 with turnover of USD2.3bn.

Average daily turnover in the large cap, US sector, leveraged and short products was USD23.8bn (-1.3 per cent), USD8.2bn (-3.4 per cent), USD7.4bn (2.3 per cent) and USD5.8bn (-5.1 per cent) respectively.

Among the emerging country ETFs, iShares MSCI Brazil ETF turnover was USD977m followed by the iShares FTSE/Xinhua China ETF with turnover of USD877m.

In non-US developed market flows, iShares MSCI Japan had turnover of USD230m.

In non-domestic regional flows, emerging market turnover was USD2.4bn and developed markets regional flows EAFE had turnover of USD0.9bn.

Total assets under management for equity based ETFs rose by 5.6 per cent to USD500.9bn in the week ending 27 July.

There were two new ETFs launched. Emerging Global Shares launched a new regional ETF tracking the emerging markets. ETF Securities also launched its first US exchange traded commodity product. The new ETFs are listed at NYSE Arca.
