European equity-related ETF AUM rises by 5.6 per cent

AUM for DJ Euro Stoxx 50 ETFs was EUR18.4n accounting for 19.5 per cent of total European AUM. Fixed income ETF AUM remained at about the same level at EUR32.8bn.

Overall, the largest ETF by AUM was the equity based Lyxor ETF DJ Euro Stoxx 50 with AUM of EUR4.9bn. The largest money market based ETF by AUM was db x-trackers II Eonia TR Index ETF with AUM of EUR3.1bn.

European exchange-based equity ETF turnover remained at about the same level during the week at EUR1.2bn. European fixed income ETF turnover rose by 2.4 per cent to EUR199.1m, with money market ETFs continuing to be the main focus.

In exchange based bond ETFs, db x-trackers II Eonia TR Index ETF has the highest daily turnover of EUR23.22m. Among the equity ETFs, iShares Dax (DE) has the highest daily turnover of EUR73.51m.

There were four new listings during the week. ETF Securities launched four ETFs at Deutsche Borse: ETFS Dow Jones Euro Stoxx 50 Double Short (2x) Fund; ETFS Dax 2x Long Fund; ETFS Dow Jones Euro Stoxx 50 Leveraged 2X Fund; and ETFS Dax 2x Short Fund.

European style ETFs, led by short and leveraged products, were the leading product area with total turnover of EUR338m accounting for 29.3 per cent of total ETF turnover, followed by European regional ETFs with total turnover of EUR337m with 29.3 per cent of total turnover. The Dax ETFs remain the dominant country products with total average daily volume of EUR145m across the five listed products and accounting for 12.6 per cent of all equity ETF volume.

Euro Stoxx 50 ETFs accounted for 16.3 per cent of turnover trading EUR187m per day with liquidity split across 13 ETFs and 36 different listings on nine exchanges.

The Deutsche Borse XTF platform has the largest market share with 38.2 per cent of total turnover. The Euronext NextTrack platform has 21.6 per cent market share. The LSE’s combined Italian Exchange and London market share is now 24.1 per cent.
