Law firm Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft has appointed Drew G. L. Chapman, an alternative investment, asset management and securities industry attorney, as partner in the corporate department.

Chapman will reside in the New York office.

“Drew Chapman is a great addition to our corporate team,” says Steven Lofchie, co-chair of the financial services department at Cadwalader. “He is a well-known and skilled transaction counsellor who brings to the firm an expertise that supplements our talent and depth in regulatory affairs, fund formation, restructuring and general transactional work.”

Chapman joins Cadwalader from DLA Piper where he served as chair of the alternative asset management group. His practice there centred on representing hedge funds and other alternative asset managers in transactions of all types, including mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, fund formation, restructurings and activist investing.

Chapman provides ongoing representation to clients by advising them on issues that arise in their day-to-day investment and trading activities and on compliance matters.

His clients include some of the world’s largest and best known hedge funds, private equity funds, broker dealers, asset management firms, and sovereign wealth funds.

“There is a significant opportunity at the upper end of the legal services industry to create a holistic practice representing hedge funds and other alternative asset managers on their most complex matters,” says Chapman. “I am excited to be at Cadwalader, where I am among sophisticated, experienced and creative legal talent that can provide deal-focused, high intensity commercial counsel for the global alternative asset management industry.”
