Channel Islands law firm Carey Olsen has promoted Robert Milner and Simon Marks to partner in the Jersey corporate and finance practice area.

Milner specialises in finance and fund structures with a particular focus on vehicles aimed at institutional and sophisticated investors. He also advises an international base of clients and lenders where property-holding structures involve Jersey vehicles.

Milner established the first Jersey unregulated fund limited partnership and has established a number of funds which are listed on global stock exchanges. He joined Carey Olsen in Jersey in 2005 from another Jersey law firm, having qualified as an advocate of the Royal Court of Jersey in 2003.

Marks’ expertise lies in structured finance, corporate and tax law and he has acted on a range of corporate and structured transactions for clients from global institutions and local businesses as well as working with leading law firms in the City of London. In particular Marks has advised on a number of transactions involving equity linked derivatives and on a variety of tax related structured finance matters and securitisation transactions. Simon has also been involved with a number of legislative proposals in the island.

Marks joined Carey Olsen in Jersey in 2006 and qualified as an advocate of the Royal Court of Jersey in 2009. He previously worked at Linklaters in London for six years and for a further 18 months at US law firm Milbank Tweed Hadley and McCloy after being admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales in 2001.

The firm’s corporate and finance group in Jersey now includes 12 partners.

Alex Ohlsson, managing partner in Jersey, says: “Robert and Simon have made significant contributions to the success of the firm and we’re certain they will go on to even greater success as partners. Their expertise will further strengthen our top tier corporate and finance practice group.”
