Nikko Asset Management launches ETF linked to MSCI Japan

Nikko Asset Management has launched an exchange-traded fund linked to the MSCI Japan Index.

The Listed Index Fund Japan Equity (MSCI Japan) was listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange on 27 July.

It is Nikko AM’s ninth Japan equity ETF.

ETFs linked to the MSCI Japan Index are already listed on New York Stock Exchange and other overseas exchanges, but Nikki AM says the listing of this new ETF on the Tokyo Stock Exchange will improve investor convenience.

As this Japanese equity-linked ETF and the equities that make up the ETF will be traded at the same time of day, theoretically there is a smaller likelihood of deviations between ETF prices and estimated net assets per unit.

Since the ETF also has high liquidity and is easy to hedge, it may facilitate tighter bid/offer spreads in the market.

The annual trust fee is 0.16 per cent, which is one of the lowest rates among ETFs linked to the MSCI Japan Index.

“Nikko AM has already launched and listed ETFs linked to the MSCI-Kokusai Index and MSCI Emerging Markets Index,” says Koei Imai, head of Nikko AM’s ETF Center. “Investors will be able to combine these ETFs with our new MSCI Japan Equity to diversify their investments.”
