US ETF and ETN assets top USD900bn for the first time

National Stock Exchange says assets in US listed exchange-traded funds and exchange-traded notes have surpassed USD900bn for the first time, totalling approximately USD900.1bn at September 2010 month-end. 

This is an increase of approximately 28 per cent over September 2009 month-end when assets totalled USD704.9bn. 

At the end of September 2010 there were 1,066 listed products.

Net cash flows to ETFs for the month totalled USD28bn, bringing the year to date total to over USD75bn. 

ETF/ETN notional trading volume during September 2010 totalled USD1.3trn, representing 30 per cent of all US equity trading volume.
