Global ETF assets rise by 19.6 per cent

Global exchange-traded fund assets have increased by 19.6 per cent year-to-date from USD1,036.0bn to USD1,239.0bn, according to a report by BlackRock.



At the end of October 2010 the global ETF industry had 2,409 ETFs with 5,335 listings, assets of USD1,239.0bn, from 130 providers on 46 exchanges around the world.

In October 2010 net new assets into ETFs/ETPs totalled USD21.0bn. Equity based ETFs/ETPs gathered USD16.5bn net inflows, of which USD9.7bn went into emerging markets ETFs/ETPs and USD6.8bn into developed markets ETFs/ETPs.

Fixed income ETFs/ETPs saw net inflows of USD3.3bn, of which USD1.0bn went into government bond ETFs/ETPs and USD0.7bn into money market ETFs/ETPs.

Commodity ETFs/ETPs saw net inflows of USD0.2bn, of which USD0.3bn went into broad commodity exposure ETFs/ETPs while energy ETFs/ETPs saw net outflows of USD0.3bn.

Year-to-date the number of ETFs increased by 23.9 per cent with 514 new ETFs launched, while 50 ETFs were delisted.

In October 2010, net new assets into European domiciled ETFs/ETPs totalled USD7.9bn.
 
Net new assets into European domiciled ETFs totalled USD7.9bn. iShares has received the largest net inflows with USD2.8bn, followed by db x-trackers with USD2.5bn net inflows, while Swiss & Global Asset Management had the largest net outflows with USD0.1bn.

In October 2010, US domiciled ETFs/ETPs experienced net inflows totalling USD13.2bn.
 
US domiciled ETFs experienced net inflows totalling USD11.8bn. Vanguard gathered the largest net inflows with USD5.2bn, followed by iShares with USD3.2bn net inflows, while ProShares saw USD0.6bn net outflows in October 2010.
