Gary Godel joins Comsure Compliance as senior consultant

Gary Godel, a senior member of staff at the Jersey Financial Services Commission, has joined Comsure Compliance founder Mathew Beale as a senior consultant.

Godel was a director of the JFSC and has worked within the commission since its inception in 1998.

He also worked in its predecessor states department from 1990.

Godel worked with Beale in the funds section of the JFSC for several years where both were responsible for the evolution of the fund regulation that has evolved and led to the FSB Codes of Practice (and forthcoming funds COP) and their application.

Beale says: “We are delighted to welcome Gary to the team. He has been closely involved in the development of regulatory requirements and powers plus their application during the past two decades. I know he will help firms under the increasingly complex regulatory regime ensure that they are compliant.”

Godel adds: “There are some real opportunities for Jersey firms now that the uncertainty of the AIFM directive has been removed. Those firms working within the funds arena should be able to attract new business. It is much more positive for this sector than it has been for the last 18 months but companies must be vigilant with regard to identifying and managing risk.”

Comsure aims to support and reinforce an organisation’s risk framework. This function identifies, assesses, advises on, monitors and reports on the organisation’s risk which includes the risk of legal or regulatory sanctions; financial loss; or loss to reputation as a result of failure to comply with all applicable laws, regulations, codes of conduct and standards of good practice.
