db x-trackers launches on Spanish stock market

Deutsche Bank’s exchange-traded funds platform, db x-trackers, has launched its first products on the Spanish stock market.

Eleven db x-trackers are now available to trade on the Bolsa de Madrid, referencing benchmarks such as the Euro Stoxx 50 and the S&P 500, a range of emerging markets indices, and a short Dax index.

The launch follows regulatory changes that have established a more favourable tax regime for Spanish investors placing money in listed Sicav funds.

Following on from this launch, db x-trackers plans to list an additional ten ETFs on the Spanish market, making it the second biggest provider in Spain in terms of numbers of products listed.

“We currently have more ETFs – over 140 – registered with the Spanish regulator for potential distribution to institutional investors. That is more than any other provider,” says Engracia Borque, responsible for db x-trackers’ Spanish listings.

The accumulated traded volume in the ETF segment of the Spanish stock market in the first ten months of this year was EUR5.5bn, a 107 per cent increase above the equivalent figure for last year. Year-to-date, over 56,000 ETF trades have been undertaken on the Spanish market, representing a 33 per cent increase compared to the same period last year.

The addition of the new db x-trackers brings the total number of ETFs listed in Spain to 55.
