Northern Trust strengthens Northeast presence

Northern Trust, a provider of financial services for institutions and affluent individuals, has made four strategic hires as it expands capabilities and increases advisory staff in the Northeastern United States.

The new additions include three Wealth Advisors and a Wealth Strategist with previous experience from Wilmington Trust, US Trust, JP Morgan Private Bank, Brown Brothers Harriman and Ernst & Young Personal Financial Services.

“As Northern Trust’s presence grows in the Northeast market, we will continue to focus on attracting top talent to offer best-in-class advice and service to our sophisticated clients,” says Jeff Kauffman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Northern Trust’s Personal Financial Services in the Northeast. “As our business accelerates, we plan to make more additions to our existing pool of expertise in areas such as financial planning, portfolio management, fiduciary services and private banking.”

The new hires include John Lee, who joins Northern Trust as a Senior Vice President and Wealth Advisor in the New York Office. Lee is a lead relationship manager for high net worth individuals, families and endowment & foundation clients. He brings 23 years of asset management and client relationship experience to the role. Previously, Lee was a managing director at Brown Brothers Harriman (BBH) in New York, supervising one of the firm’s largest wealth management offices. Before joining BBH, he spent seven years at US Trust Company of New York in the Asset Management Group.

Maria Neary, CPA and CFA, joins Northern Trust as a Senior Vice President and Wealth Advisor in the New York office. Neary is responsible for delivering comprehensive wealth management solutions to high net worth individuals and families. Previously, she led Geller Family Office Services LLC, a multi-family office providing wealth management services to private clients. In addition to providing direction for the practice, her responsibilities there included overseeing client relationships and coordinating a wide range of wealth management services. She also served as a member of the firm’s Investment Committee. Previous roles include chief operating officer at Braun Business Management, a multi-family office, and senior relationship manager at JP Morgan Private Bank.
