Baird, an employee-owned, international investment banking, private equity, wealth and asset management firm, has appointed Vinay Ghai as a Managing Director in its Investment Banking team in London, underlining the firm’s continued expansion in Europe.

Ghai, who joins Baird from corporate finance adviser Hawkpoint, will work alongside Nick Sealy, Managing Director, and support Baird’s global M&A advisory practice, leveraging his deep experience and relationships in the Consumer & Industrial sectors.

Ghai’s appointment is yet another sign of the growing strength of Baird Investment Banking in Europe and around the globe. Since the beginning of 2008, the group has added 18 Managing Directors and Directors globally, created two new industry vertical banking teams in Energy and Clean Technology, and opened four new office locations on two continents. With the additions of talent, expertise and global reach, Baird’s M&A advisory business has seen tremendous growth. In 2010, the number of Baird M&A deals was up more than 170 percent compared to the same period in the prior year, and aggregate deal value reached nearly $12 billion.

Ghai spent eight years in the Hawkpoint Corporate Advisory team with wide experience in Consumer, Services, Leisure, Healthcare and Industrials. Prior to joining Hawkpoint, Ghai was Vice President, European M&A, at Goldman Sachs (1999-2002) and earlier Senior Associate, European M&A, at Deutsche Bank (1996-1999).

Ghai has a First Class degree in Engineering from Imperial College, London, and is a qualified Chartered Accountant.

John Fordham, Chairman of Baird’s European Investment Banking team, says: “I am delighted to welcome Vinay to the team. His knowledge of the European M&A landscape, across a number of our sectors, will be invaluable as we continue to expand our coverage. Our European Investment Banking team has developed significant momentum in recent years, leveraging our ‘one team’ approach to serve the global mid-market. With Vinay’s appointment, we expect further progress and gains in market share.”

Ghai says: “I am delighted to be joining Baird. The firm’s Investment Banking group has experienced such strong performance and continued expansion. I look forward to applying my experience to help drive more activity for the firm in the Consumer & Industrial space.”
