ETFs and ETNs reach record levels, says NSX

Assets in US-listed exchange traded funds (ETF) and exchange traded notes (ETN) continue to reach record levels, totalling approximately USD1.14 trillion at April 2011 month-end, according to the National Stock Exchange (NSX). That figure represents an increase of approximately 34% over April 2010 month-end when assets totalled almost USD847 billion.  

At the end of April 2011, the number of listed products surpassed 1200 for the first time, totalling 1,216 compared to 998 listed products at the same time last year. 

ETF/ETN net cash inflows for April 2011 totalled approximately USD22.4 billion. Year-to-date net cash inflows reached a record USD51.3 billion, an increase of approximately 140% over the same time period in 2010 when net cash flows reached USD21.3 billion. ETF/ETN notional trading volume during April 2011 totalled approximately USD1.3 trillion, representing almost 28% of all US equity trading volume.
