Skandia launches ‘investment process in a tin’

Skandia has launched its ‘Investment Process in a Tin’ – a new tool kit developed to help advisers design an investment process to meet the needs of their clients. The toolkit, which comes in a tin case, forms one of the many resources Skandia has launched to help advisers in designing a new service proposition and is exclusively available via Skandia’s team of business consultants.

Since the FSA’s Assessing Suitability Paper was released in March 2011, demand has increased from advisers for more information on how to build a solid and well thought out investment process. Whilst the Skandia platform provides advisers with a way to deliver a robust and compliant investment process, there is still a need for advisers to document exactly what this is so they can share it with their clients as well as keep it on file as evidence for the regulator.

Skandia’s ‘Investment Process in a Tin’ tool kit has been designed to give advisers some practical assistance with this task and is made up of three key elements:

1. Investment process builder

This part of the tool kit is based around a seven stage investment process and is designed to help advisers create a framework for their own investment process which can then be tailored to the needs of their clients.

2. Investment committee guidance

The investment committee is an important part of the investment process and is responsible for ensuring investment decisions are made in the best interests of the client. To assist advisers in running investment committee meetings, this section provides a draft agenda and example meeting minutes to help run these meetings more effectively.

3. Draft client letter

This section provides a draft client letter for advisers to use, making it easier for advisers to communicate and explain recommended changes to a client’s investment portfolio.

Jeremy Mugridge (pictured), platform specialist at Skandia, says: “One of the key considerations when designing a new service proposition is how to develop the right investment process to meet the needs of the client. To help advisers with this, we have developed Investment Process in a Tin which offers practical and easy to follow guidance. This unique tool kit offers a helping hand to advisers by providing a framework for them to build a robust investment process for their clients. The tool kit forms part of a suite of tools and resources we have launched to help advisers build more successful businesses, however unlike some of our recent developments, Investment Process in a Tin is only available through our field and telephone based business consultants.”
