Valentine Capital Asset Management hires veteran chief compliance officer

Valentine Capital Asset Management, a fee-only, independent RIA based in the San Francisco Bay Area, has appointed Reynold Samoranos as Chief Compliance Officer. Samoranos, whose appointment is effective November 2011, will report directly to John Valentine, founder and president of Valentine Capital Asset Management.

With over 23 years of experience in the investment management industry, Samoranos joins Valentine from Hammerman Capital Management, a hedge fund manager, where he served as both Chief Financial Officer and Chief Compliance Officer. Previously, Samoranos was the Founding Principal of the real estate investment firm RKB Investment Group, and earlier was Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President of Newport Pacific Management, a San Francisco based USD3 billion international investment management firm.

"Throughout his career, Reynold has proven to be a leader in investment management operations and compliance," says Valentine. "His expertise and insight into the complexities of today’s regulatory environment is an invaluable asset, and we are excited to welcome him to our firm."

"Valentine Capital recognises compliance as an important asset to its practice and an invaluable process in our current economic climate," says Samoranos. "I’m excited to join John and the Valentine Capital team as they are true industry thought leaders who are passionate about their business, and their clients."

Prior to Newport Pacific Management, Samoranos served as Chief Financial Officer and Senior Vice President of Operations and Trading at Hanson Investment Management Company, an investment management firm, where he was responsible for all non-investment operations and played a leading role in growing the firm’s assets under management to USD2.5 billion. Earlier, Samoranos was Vice President and Regional Controller at then-Citicorp’s West Coast Institutional Banking Group.

Samoranos holds an MBA in Finance from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, and a BS in Business Administration from the Walter Haas School of Business at University of California, Berkeley.
