HSBC Private Bank names Bernard Rennell, CEO, North Asia

HSBC Private Bank has appointed Bernard Rennell CEO for North Asia, subject to regulatory approvals.

Rennell joined HSBC in Asia Pacific in July 2000 as Head of Bank of Bermuda’s Private Wealth Services based in Hong Kong. A former securities lawyer, Renell was Head of Private Wealth Solutions, Asia before being appointed Global Head of Private Wealth Solutions in 2009. He has extensive experience in trust, tax and wealth structuring, corporate and family governance, corporate finance and financial markets.  

In this new role Rennell will be responsible for all private banking activity for HSBC Private Bank in North Asia, including Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, Japan and the Philippines. He will be based in Hong Kong.

Commenting on this appointment, Krishna Patel, global CEO of HSBC Private Bank, says: “This is a significant appointment for the Private Bank in Asia and our global private banking business. North Asia, and in particular Hong Kong, is a key strategic location for the Group and Bernard’s experience of working with ultra high net worth families and his knowledge of the local market will be important in further building HSBC Private Bank’s strong position in the territory.”

Bernard is a past Chairman of the Hong Kong Branch of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners, past Chairman of the Hong Kong Trustees’ Association, and serves on the advisory boards of a number of public and private charitable and philanthropic foundations.  

In 2011 HSBC Private Bank’s Private Wealth Solutions was ranked number one in Bloomberg Market’s Top 50 Family Offices.
