Lombard Odier Investment Managers appoints ING’s Jan Straatman as CIO

Lombard Odier Investment Managers (LOIM) has appointed Jan Straatman (pictured) as Chief Investment Officer, a newly-created position, effective 1 March 2012. He joins from ING Investment Management where for the last two years he was Global CIO, overseeing EUR330 billion of client assets.

Straatman will be based in London, reporting to Hubert Keller, who is a Managing Partner of Lombard Odier and co-responsible for LOIM along with Thierry Lombard.

With 28 years of investment experience, Straatman joined ING’s European asset management unit as CIO in 2008 before becoming global CIO for that business. While there, he oversaw 800 investment professionals worldwide in 32 locations.

Between 2006 and 2008 Straatman was CEO/CIO at Pearl Group in London and from 2001 to 2006 was CIO Capital Markets at ABP Investments, one of the largest pension funds in the world, based in Amsterdam and New York. During his tenure, ABP was named ‘Best European Pension Plan’ three times, He has also worked for Achmea Global Investors, PVF Pensioenen and began his career at GIM/GIM Capital Management in the Netherlands and United States.

“LOIM has built an investment business that began by asking the most basic questions of how to create value for investors in volatile markets," says Hubert Keller. "Our pioneering approach of bringing the best of alternative and traditional investment management together has led to a thriving range of strategies and funds across Equities, Fixed Income and Asset Allocation. Jan’s investment management experience will help us to generate significant scale while concentrating on the needs of sophisticated private and third-party clients as well as the most demanding of institutional investors."

LOIM offers institutional clients a range of innovative products including thematic investments, convertibles funds, fundamentally weighted fixed income products, an asset allocation process providing truly diversified portfolios as well as single-manager hedge funds. Lombard Odier’s managers seek to deliver performance by identifying sources of both risk and return through absolute return, passive and active strategies.

"LOIM has adopted the next generation of investment models by putting the client at the centre with increased focus on absolute return investment solutions,” says Straatman. ”This is innovative and different from the mass of ‘me too’ asset management offerings. I’m delighted to take on this challenge to help bring LOIM’s business to the next level.”
