ETRACS ETNs occupy top two performance spots in 2011 for MLP ETPs

UBS Investment Bank’s ETRACS MLP ETNs were the top two performing exchange-traded notes (ETNs) or exchange-traded funds (ETFs) linked to a Master Limited Partnership (MLP) index in 2011, according to figures released by Bloomberg.

MLP ETNs and ETFs are exchange-traded securities designed to deliver the performance of an underlying MLP index.

The ETRACS 2x Leveraged Long Alerian MLP Infrastructure Index ETN, returned 32.23 percent in 2011, while the ETRACS Alerian MLP Infrastructure Index ETN returned 15.82 per cent. The next best performer was the JPMorgan Alerian MLP Index ETN with 12.98 per cent.
