Vanguard cuts fees on 13 ETFs

Vanguard, No3 in the US ETF space with USD1.7 trillion in assets under management, has cut the expense ratios of 13 of its most popular exchange traded funds.

The reductions include a 17 per cent cut to the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF, a 14 per cent cut to the Vanguard Total STock Market ETF, and a 9 per cent cut to the firm’s Vanguard Total Bond Market ETF.

According to Vanguard, the reductions are due to either growth in assets or a drop in management costs of the funds. "A fund’s expense ratio may change from year to year in response to changes in its assets and/or changes in the cost of managing it," Vanguard said in press release posted on its website.

The 10 other expense ratio changes, which all became effective 26 April, are:
Vanguard Extended Market ETF – 0.14% from 0.16%
Vanguard Growth ETF – 0.10% from 0.12%
Vanguard Large-Cap ETF – 0.10% from 0.12%
