Vivian Coghill, founder of City Asset Management, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday following a short illness.

Coghill, a qualified accountant, had over 20 years experience in industry and commerce both in the UK and overseas, before founding City Asset Management in 1988. As well as being responsible for the overall company management, Viv’s technical expertise embraced most aspects of wealth management. He particularly enjoyed building a company that really values the personal relationships it has with its clients and professional contacts and to this end, he will be succeeded by his son, Nicholas (Nick) Coghill (pictured).

Nick has worked in the investment industry for over 20 years and joins City Asset Management on 1 June. A qualified accountant himself, he was a Managing Director in Morgan Stanley’s Equity division and Co-Head of the EMEA region for derivative sales. Over a period of ten years, Nick built a highly successful team covering the UK within Morgan Stanley, and latterly co-managed the teams across Europe and the Middle East, working mostly with wealth management and retail businesses.  Given his family connection, Nick is already fully familiar with the personnel and structure of City Asset Management and understands the culture of the firm and its strategy.

Nick Coghill says: ‘City Asset Management is looking to build on its business model and consistency of delivering investment and wealth planning solutions to investors over the coming years, whilst running a solid and financially strong company.  I am looking forward to using my in depth knowledge of the wealth management industry to help City Asset Management to build on the strong foundations my father laid.’

City Asset Management business development director Helen Angove, says: “Viv’s legacy is a strong company with its roots firmly planted in the wealth management field.  Nick has an in-depth understanding of the issues and opportunities that individual investors and IFAs face, and his collective knowledge of the industry and contacts offers an insight that will be incredibly beneficial to both City Asset Management and its clients.”

Chief Investment Officer, Hilary Coghill, says: “I really look forward to working with Nick over the coming years, to build on the franchise that Viv established.  Our priority is continuity and a strong appreciation of the importance of clients and their needs in the economic and regulatory environment.”
