GreenHaven plans coal ETF

Greenhaven is planning to launch the first futures-based coal exchange-traded fund, according to paperwork filed with US regulators.

The GreenHaven Coal Index Fund, a commodity trading pool, will aim to track the performance of the Tradition Coal Index by investing mainly in CME Central Appalachian coal futures contracts, according to a prospectus filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The fund may also realise interest income from its holdings in US Treasuries.

The funds shares are expected to be listed on the NYSE Arca under the symbol TONS.
