Brazil has the highest number of high net worth individuals in Latin America and the third highest among BRIC nations, according to a report from Research and Markets.

The report, called "Brazil – The Future of HNWIs to 2016: The Latin American Giant", provides market sizing and forecasts of local HNWI and UHNWI populations.

The report also leverages WealthInsight’s HNWI Database, to provide key demographic breakdowns such as sector and city specific data.

In 2011, real estate is the largest asset class for HNWIs in Brazil (37.4 per cent of total HNWI assets), followed by equities (18.4 per cent), cash (13.5 per cent), business interests (12.7 per cent), fixed income (12.4 per cent) and alternatives (5.6 per cent).

In 2011, HNWIs in Brazil held 22.1 per cent (USD210bn) of their wealth outside of Brazil. This is below the global average of approximately 30 per cent.

The global private banking industry is estimated to have assets under management of just over USD16.5trn. The Brazilian wealth management sector accounts for USD250bn of this, making it the largest Latin America country by AUM.
