AQR launches defensive equity and commodities mutual funds

AQR Capital Management has launched four mutual funds, including AQR US Defensive Equity Fund, AQR International Defensive Equity Fund, AQR Emerging Defensive Equity Fund and AQR Risk-Balanced Commodities Strategy Fund.

These new, no-load mutual funds begin operations on 9 July 2012 and will be distributed through financial advisers only.

"We continue to leverage our extensive expertise with sophisticated institutional clients to bring distinct investment ideas and concepts to a growing financial advisor marketplace that is in search of better ways to diversify their clients’ portfolios," says David G. Kabiller, co-founding partner and head of client strategies at AQR.

The defensive equity funds seek to provide equity-like returns with lower volatility and smaller drawdowns.

The commodities fund seeks to achieve higher returns than its benchmark (DJ-UBS Index) while maintaining a more consistent risk level and smaller drawdowns using an actively-managed, risk-balanced approach.

AQR Capital Management launched its first mutual fund on 9 January 2009.
