City law firm Speechly Bircham has added to its private wealth capability with the appointment of private client lawyer James Trafford as a partner.

Until recently Trafford (pictured) led the private client team at Wilsons in Salisbury.

Trafford started his career at City firm Travers Smith in 1984 before joining Wilsons in 1991.

Trafford acts for a number of individuals and families in The Sunday Times Rich List together with private banks, offshore trust companies and individuals with complicated multi-jurisdictional issues.

John Ward, head of Speechly Bircham’s private client practice, says: “James’ experience and reputation in the UK and international private client arena precedes him and we are delighted that he has chosen to join Speechlys’ market-leading team. James’ experience will be invaluable as we continue to expand our offering to both UK and international clients.”

Trafford says: “Speechly Bircham’s size and its integrated capabilities means that I can exploit both onshore and offshore opportunities more effectively.  This enables me to offer my clients a broader range of services – for example in the corporate and financial services spheres.”
