Independent wealth manager London & Capital has appointed Pau Morilla-Giner as chief investment officer.

Morilla-Giner, who joined the London based firm as head of equities, commodities and alternative investments in 2008, will remain lead manager on London & Capital’s suite of equities and commodities funds, but will also be responsible for the development of the firm’s macro-economic views, providing the framework for asset allocation and  investment decisions.

Morilla-Giner replaces Ashok Shah, who joined London & Capital in 2002 after 29 years with Old Mutual, where he was latterly head of emerging markets. Shah, who has worked closely with Morilla-Giner over the last 18 months in managing the transition, will remain with the firm as investment director.

Shah says: “Succession planning in firms of our size is critical to the stability and continuing growth of the business. I am therefore delighted that we have someone of Pau’s proven ability to step into the CIO role, and pleased that we have been able to work together on the handover for so many months, for the benefit of all stakeholders. Continuity is our primary concern, so I will remain with the firm for the foreseeable future in the role of investment director, and believe this is the optimal solution for the clients, and a key appointment in delivering our plans for the future.”

Morilla-Giner started his career in investment at JP Morgan Asset Management in Madrid and New York. In 2001 he joined Omega Capital, a multi-billion investment company, where he became head of traditional investments and senior hedge fund analyst. From 2005 he was investment manager and head of research at Pragma Wealth Management, a London-based alternative investment company.
