Perella Weinberg Partners to launch global macro alternative investment strategy

Perella Weinberg Partners is to launch the PWP Global Macro Strategy, a highly liquid global macro strategy investing in equity indices, currencies, sovereign debt, credit and commodities.

The new strategy will be led by Maria Vassalou, who has joined the firm as a partner and portfolio manager in its asset management business. Vassalou will be based in New York.
Vassalou joins Perella Weinberg Partners from MIO Partners, a subsidiary of McKinsey & Company, where as a portfolio manager she used a similar global macro investment strategy, and as head of asset allocation, provided counsel on allocation for liquid assets within MIO’s portfolio. Previously, she was a global macro portfolio manager at SAC Capital Advisors, and she also served as head of quantitative strategies at Soros Fund Management.
Terry Meguid, a founding partner and head of the firm’s asset management business, says: “We are very pleased to welcome Maria to the firm and to launch this new strategy, which allows us to offer our clients a new high-quality investment solution. The attractive liquidity characteristics and historically lower correlations to public markets make this increasingly appealing to institutional investors. We believe that the combination of Maria’s strong skillset and varied experiences makes her ideal to lead this new effort for our Firm.”
Vassalou says: “I am excited to join Perella Weinberg Partners and to deliver a global macro strategy to investors as part of this well-respected asset management franchise. We hope to provide value to our investors with a strategy that is motivated by fundamental macro-economic relationships and robust economic analysis and that employs a rigorous risk management framework. I look forward to working with the firm’s talented professionals as we launch this strategy and to bringing this new investment solution to investors.”
