Sanlam launches sponsorship of Saracens rugby team

Private client and wealth manager Sanlam Private Investments is a new sponsor of Saracens rugby team.

The sponsorship was formally launched this week when the elite team played and won a pre-season match against the Cornish Pirates, at what is now an annual event played within the historic grounds of the Honourable Artillery Company in the City of London.

The Saracens squad includes top international players such as Owen Farrell, Matt Stevens, Mako Vinipolo and Chris Ashton and a number of South African players including Brad Barritt, Neil De Kock, Alistair Hargreaves and Schalk Brits.

This latest sponsorship is part of SPI’s strategy to increase brand awareness, particularly among high net worths and their families, as it continues its programme of expansion. The ambitious wealth and investments manager is expanding its regional footprint – with plans to increase its number of offices across the UK and to treble its assets under management in the next five years.

Earlier this year, SPI also announced the exclusive sponsorship of the International Opera Awards, a prestigious new annual event tipped to be the equivalent of the ‘BAFTAS’ of the world of opera. This too was designed to increase its profile with high net worths.

Commenting on the sponsorship, Sanlam Private Investments CEO Craig Massey (pictured with members of the Saracens team), says: “Saracens is a strong brand with a large South African connection and we feel its talent, work ethic, discipline and values resonate strongly with our culture at SPI. We believe in working with talented people and with the right people, and the Saracens commitment to its players both on and off the field fits well with our core values of passion, innovation, transparency, and trust. We have also been impressed by their ethic of reaching out into the community – largely through the work of its Sports Foundation, Community Team and School Partnership Programme.

“For our part, we see ourselves not just as sponsors of the Saracens but as ‘wealth partners’, so we will be offering to support the players not just on the field but in the wider world and in life after rugby – whenever that might be. We will seek to guide on how to structure their financial affairs throughout their careers, assisting them with financial planning and helping them develop other life and work skills by offering advice on careers and training in financial services.”

Saracens Chairman Nigel Wray says: “We are delighted to welcome Sanlam Private Investments as a sponsor of the club. They are a company with ambitious plans in the UK and we look forward to a long and successful partnership.”
