Octopus launches online tax planning site for advisers

Octopus Investments has launched an online tax planning microsite designed specifically to support financial advisers in the run up to tax year end (TYE) 2014.

The site aims to provide advisers with useful information on the range of investment solutions available to help them address their clients’ tax planning needs.
The microsite complements the Octopus ‘TYE toolkit’ which has been developed in partnership with advisers and was launched at the end of January. The toolkit ensures that advisers are equipped with all the materials they require to understand how best tax-efficient investment solutions, like enterprise investment schemes and venture capital trusts, can be used to help people achieve their financial planning goals.
The microsite is interactive and invites advisers to answer a few simple questions on a client’s financial and tax planning needs. This then leads the adviser to the relevant information they need on the products that might be suitable for the client’s requirements.
The site also includes a range of different tax planning case studies, for example where a Power of Attorney is involved or there has been a recent property sale, to help advisers identify their own clients’ requirements and potential solutions. Through the site, advisers will also be able to request print copies of the Octopus TYE toolkit, which includes full details of the products on the site and the planning case studies.
“We know that the run up to tax year end is the busiest time for advisers, and they have a vast amount of product information and client needs to manage,” says Guy Myles, co-founder and managing director at Octopus. “Advisers are instrumental in helping people manage their finances over the long term and we do everything we can at Octopus to support them. Our TYE microsite and toolkit aim to help advisers efficiently navigate some of the options available to their clients, and illustrate the benefits and tax efficiencies available through smaller company investing. We hope they will prove useful resources for advisers over the coming months as tax year end looms.”
In addition to the Octopus TYE toolkit and microsite, Octopus is hosting a series of Tax Planning Masterclasses across the UK aimed at helping advisers lift the lid on tax efficient investments. Attendees will hear about how a range of tax efficient investment solutions, including VCTs and EIS, can help advisers meet their clients’ financial planning objectives. The seminars provide a practical guide on how these investment solutions can play a meaningful role as part of a diversified portfolio of investments, as well as highlighting the different investment strategies available to investors interested in smaller company investing – be it growth, income or capital preservation.
