Eaton Vance has appointed Brad Thomas to the newly created position of head of global consultant relations for Eaton Vance Distributors.

Thomas will be responsible for direct oversight of Eaton Vance's institutional consultant relations efforts across North America and for the coordination of consultant relations activities on a global basis.

He joins Eaton Vance on 12 May 2014 and will report to Matt Witkos, president of Eaton Vance Distributors.

Thomas began his career in the investment management business 25 years ago. Most recently, he was head of institutional distribution, Americas for First State Investments. In this role, he established a North American sales effort, and developed and managed a supporting sales team.

Thomas was previously managing director, consultant relations, for Manulife Asset Management and manager, US sales for Batterymarch Financial Management.  He has also held direct sales and sales management roles at Morgan Stanley Investment Management, Old Mutual Asset Management and Nuveen Investments.

"As investment management grows more complex, consultant organisations are playing a larger role in the decision-making of many institutions," says Witkos. "Brad's hiring reflects both increased resources devoted to the consultant relations function and a commitment to ensuring close coordination across our investment, business development and service teams on a global level."
