Retail fund management company Octopus Investments, a specialist in smaller company investing, has appointed Alex Miller as chief operating officer.

Miller was previously director of strategy and operational performance at Lloyds Banking Group.

Miller joined Lloyds Banking Group in 2011 and was responsible for leading the strategy, design and delivery of the bank’s operational programme. This included developing a number of initiatives focused on improving customer experience at the bank, as well as managing all regulatory and business as usual changes that impacted operations.

Prior to Lloyds Banking Group, he held senior positions at BT Group and Orange UK. During both roles he was responsible for developing operational programmes and service management to support sales.

Simon Rogerson, CEO of Octopus, says: “Alex provides a wealth of operational experience and has a proven track record of delivering customer focused programmes. It is brilliant to have him on board. Improving services for our customers, both financial advisers and our investors, is an integral part of Octopus’ DNA. We are looking forward to working with him as we continue to develop our services and expand our customer base. Octopus has grown rapidly in recent years driven by the growth in financial planning and increased awareness of the benefits of smaller company investing. We remain absolutely committed to providing the best possible service to our customers.”

Miller says: “Octopus is a truly customer obsessed company and I am delighted to be joining the team as the company continues to expand its operational capabilities to support its customers. Octopus has a fantastic culture underpinned by a desire to deliver the best service possible to its customers. With the recognised social and economic need for UK smaller companies, Octopus is well placed to continue to champion UK enterprise and develop innovative investment solutions that enable investors to access the benefits of UK smaller companies.”

Miller will be sitting on the management committee.
