Investec Asset Management grows multi-asset team

As international interest for multi-asset and specifically, diversified growth strategies, continues to grow, Investec Asset Management has strengthened its Global Multi-Asset team with three appointments.

The team runs assets under management of USD18bn. These hires are a continuation of the recent strengthening of the team, following the hire of Michael Spinks from Schroders in 2012.

With a track record of managing multi-asset mandates since the inception of the business over twenty years ago, the Investec Asset Management Multi-Asset team is responsible for a range of strategies encompassing Diversified Growth, Diversified Income and Emerging Markets Multi-Asset. The team also draws on the specialist equity, fixed income, commodity and emerging market expertise within the firm, combining this with the specialist asset skill-sets within the team.

Joining as an investment specialist with responsibility for product and process management, Atul Shinh previously worked at Mercer where he led manager research coverage for Diversified Growth strategies globally. Prior to this he was part of Axa’s Multi-Manager team after a role at the Financial Services Authority.

Edmund Ng joins as a portfolio manager responsible for leading equity research and the development of equity strategies. Prior to joining Investec Asset Management, he managed long-only EAFE and long/short European equity strategies at TT International, following a role at Morgan Stanley as a sell-side equity strategist.

Michael Streatfield joins the team to focus on portfolio construction and quantitative analysis. Prior to joining Investec Asset Management, he held roles at Towers Watson and Old Mutual Asset Management as a research actuary, and was head of quantitative research at Fleming Martin Asset Management. He holds a  PhD in financial economics.

Domenico Ferrini, co-Chief Investment Officer, says: “Multi Asset has been a cornerstone investment capability since the inception of the firm and we are delighted to have such high quality individuals join the team at such an exciting time in our growth. Our long-term track records in running multi-asset strategies and our on-going investment in the team, specifically to enhance our Global Diversified Growth strategy led by Michael Spinks and Diversified Income strategies led by John Stopford, combine specialist research experience with Multi Asset generalist mindsets.”

Michael Spinks, co-Head of Multi-Asset and Portfolio Manager, Investec Diversified Growth Strategy, says: “We are seeing strong demand across our outcome orientated Multi Asset range and the new team members ensure that we support this growth and continue to deliver the performance that our clients expect. We believe our approach to grouping assets as Growth, Defensive and Uncorrelated – by considering their behaviours rather than relying on asset class labels – results in superior diversification and portfolio construction.”
