Dan Kemp has been named co-head of investment consulting and portfolio management for Morningstar Investment Management EMEA, a unit of the Morningstar investment management group.

He takes up his role on 2 June.

Kemp will co-lead Morningstar’s EMEA investment consulting and portfolio management team with Robin Johnson, senior investment consultant. Together, they report to Daniel Needham, global chief investment officer for Morningstar Investment Management.

Kemp will be working with Johnson and the investment team to leverage Morningstar‘s global investment capabilities to provide best practice investment consulting and portfolio management services for Morningstar Investment Management clients across the UK and Europe. This will include overseeing and supporting the managed discretionary portfolio service, available to UK advisers on six platforms.

Kemp brings to Morningstar 17 years of experience in research, investment management and investment consulting. He joins from Albemarle Street Partners, an investment consultancy partnership that he co-founded in 2012. Prior to Albemarle, he worked for Saltus Partners, managing the firm’s flagship Saltus Multi Asset Class Fund. He has also previously worked as fund manager and head of fund research for Williams de Broë (formerly Christows).

“Morningstar Investment Management serves an increasing number of institutions and advisers, leveraging our research-driven asset allocation, manager selection, and portfolio construction capabilities. Dan’s investment management experience in the UK market will further strengthen our offering to clients,” Needham says.

“Following recent appointments to Morningstar’s 40 strong EMEA research team, Morningstar Investment Management now has more than 60 investment professionals advising clients and managing portfolios. We have significantly improved the quality and depth of our research and investment teams. Being able to leverage these resources will be essential in providing investment solutions in a more complex post-RDR world.”
