AdvisorShares, a sponsor of 24 actively managed exchange-traded funds (ETFs), is to launch the AdvisorShares Sunrise Multi-Strategy ETF (MULT) on 9 July 2014.
MULT is managed by Sunrise Capital Partners, a San Diego-based SEC registered investment adviser with expertise in quantitative asset management.
Unlike quantitative strategies that commonly use a single model, the actively managed MULT employs a multi-model and multi-strategy quantitative investment approach that tactically invests both long and short across a variety of asset classes by using ETFs, futures, foreign currencies and US Treasuries.
The investment approach is designed to be agnostic to the economic environment, as the portfolio manager looks for opportunities across all financial markets – global equity, bond and currency – to exploit statistical inefficiencies and seeks to provide long-term capital appreciation that is not highly correlated to any particular market. By doing so, MULT continually assesses over 50 global markets using a suite of diversified systems that respectively concentrate on trend following, sector rotation, momentum, and reversionary patterns.
“Financial advisors continue to look for skilled alternative managers that can be used within all client portfolios. We are excited to bring an experienced manager in the alternative space to investors,” says Noah Hamman, chief executive officer of AdvisorShares. “Over the course of three decades, Sunrise Capital’s deep quantitative experience has served their investors well in all market environments, and we’re pleased to deliver their expertise in alternatives through the daily transparency, intra-day liquidity and overall efficiency of an actively managed ETF.”
“At Sunrise Capital, we believe that the collective intrinsic intelligence of markets exists within accessible data,” says Chris Stanton, portfolio manager of MULT and chief investment officer of Sunrise Capital. “Using our non-correlated investment blend, which aggregates a family of strategies across multiple markets in real-time – and given the depth of our 35-year quantitative investment experience – we are confident in our ability to grow investment capital and dynamically manage risk. As the alternative landscape expands among 40-Act Funds, we feel investors and financial advisors seeking diversification for their portfolios could discover MULT to be a compelling offering due to its disciplined investment strategy and actively managed ETF structure.”
