Barclays has appointed Solomon Soquar as head of global investments and solutions (GI&S) at wealth and investment management.

GI&S delivers high quality investment services to Barclays’ clients, founded on a consistent approach to developing financial profiles and assessing clients’ risk appetite, while providing products and solutions that map to both.

Soquar joined Barclays in 2011 and has over 24 years’ experience in private banking and investment management.  Prior to Barclays he worked at Citi Private Bank where he was responsible for capital markets in the EMEA region. He worked at Merrill Lynch as head of distribution for international private clients before Citi and has held positions in Goldman Sachs and Bankers Trust in corporate finance and capital markets respectively.

Akshaya Bhargava, chief executive, Barclays Wealth and Investment Management, says: “Following an extensive internal and external search I’m delighted that Solomon Soquar has agreed to head up GI&S at Barclays Wealth and Investment Management. In Solomon we have a values driven individual, with deep investment expertise and a strategic outlook to continue to build out our investment centre of excellence. His appointment is also testimony to the quality and depth of the internal talent pool at Barclays.”

Soquar says: “This is an exciting time to be taking charge of GI&S. GI&S provides a critical capability within Personal and Corporate Banking and I feel honoured to lead this team as it continues to deliver ‘best in class’ investment services and innovative investment ideas to all client segments across Barclays.”
