Bellevue adds to Africa portfolio management team

Bellevue Asset Management has recruited Andy Gboka for its emerging markets team focused on Africa.

An expert for the African market, Andy will strengthen the team managing the BB African Opportunities Fund headed by Malek Bou-Diab.
From 2011 to 2014 Gboka was with Exotix LLP in London as a Senior Analyst covering listed African companies in the brewing, cement and industrial sectors. Prior to that, he spent three years at Société Générale’s Corporate and Investment Banking unit as an Equity Analyst. Andy Gboka earned a Master’s degree in finance from the Bordeaux Management School BEM and he is a Chartered Accountant.

The BB African Opportunities Fund is an equity fund with daily liquidity that is focused on structural growth themes in North and Sub-Saharan Africa. Its better-than-average performance and risk-controlled investment strategy set it apart from other funds in its peer group. Those qualities have repeatedly earned it one of the most attractive risk/return profiles in its class. Besides the prospects of attractive returns over the long term, fund investors appreciate the diversification benefits Africa equities offer given their low correlation with the world stock market.
BB African Opportunities advanced 11.2% in 2014 and its three-year performance stands at 48.4%. It is one of the top choices for high net worth individuals, family offices, fund-of-funds, private banks and asset managers seeking exposure to African equities and it has received numerous awards for its performance.
Malek Bou-Diab, the Lead Portfolio Manager of BB African Opportunities Fund, currently has a AAA Citywire Rating and the Fund has a 4 Star Morningstar rating. The fund managers are also highly sought-after speakers at international investment conferences on Africa and their market views are regularly reported on in the media. The fund currently has an investment volume of about EUR 100 million.

Gboka’s roots lie in West Africa, having grown up in Ivory Coast as a dual French citizen, and he therefore has intricate knowledge of the local business environment. The experienced Sub-Saharan expert joined Bellevue Asset Management as a senior analyst/ portfolio manager for the BB African Opportunities Fund at the beginning of 2015.
