The Kia Oval will host the inaugural international Help for Heroes Twenty20 cricket fundraiser, supported by Old Mutual Wealth.
Global cricket stars past and present will face off in a competitive end of season finale with Sir Ian Botham coaching the Help for Heroes England team captained by Andrew Strauss.
Gary Kirsten will coach the Rest of the World team, whose captain is yet to be revealed.
On the eve of the Rugby World Cup the world’s best cricketers, selected by Allan Lamb, will play at the Kia Oval to raise money for the ongoing support of our wounded and their families.
The headline match will be preceded by the very first match between a Top Flight XI, who take on a Help for Heroes Recovery XI made up of those who have been wounded or injured serving in the British Armed Forces.
Allan Lamb, Chair of Selectors, says: “I am sure that the cricketing world will embrace this exciting game on 17 September. As Chair of Selectors, I am intent on picking the very best teams to play each other for this great cause. We want to create a fantastic spirit on the day – and I am convinced we will do that.”
Paul Feeney, Chief Executive of Old Mutual Wealth, says: “We are all inspired by the remarkable individuals who not only choose to serve their country, but who go on after life-changing injuries to show us what courage really means. We are proud to be able to support them and this fundraising initiative made possible by Help for Heroes. It is set to be a unique and entertaining event for the whole family and will raise essential funds that will have a real impact on the lives and families of those who have made huge sacrifices on behalf of our nation and who inspire us today.”
