Coutts Trustees appoints Lord Waldegrave as chairman and non-exec director

Coutts & Co Trustees (Jersey) has appointed Lord William Waldegrave as Chairman of the Board and Non Executive Director. The appointment follows a string of senior hires across the business as Coutts continues to invest in it flagship Trust company in Jersey.

Lord Waldegrave of North Hill has a wide ranging academic, political and business background.  He was educated at Corpus Christi College, Oxford and went on to attend Harvard University on a Kennedy Scholarship.  He is a Distinguished Fellow of All Souls College, Oxford, and was appointed the Provost of Eton College in 2009.  A long and distinguished career in politics included Cabinet posts between 1990 and 1997 as Secretary of State for Health, Secretary of State for Agriculture, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and Chief Secretary to the Treasury.  He entered the House of Lords in 1999 and from 2000 to 2003 was President of the Parliamentary and Scientific Committee.  He has since served as Vice Chairman of UBS Investment Bank and as Chairman of the Global Financial Institutions Group at Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein.  Most recently, Lord Waldegrave served as a Non-Executive Director at Fleming Family & Partners. He is also the Chairman of Coutts & Co.
Martin Hall, Chief Executive of Coutts Trustees, says: “We are delighted to welcome Lord Waldegrave to the Board. This appointment is testament to the strength of the Coutts Trustee business, which continues to develop and grow. Over the last year, we have refreshed our proposition, invested in a new technology platform and strengthened our senior team with a number of new hires. Feedback from clients and intermediaries has been notably positive and shows that we are already reaping the awards of the investment.”
Lord Waldegrave says: “The Coutts Trustee business has been operating for 46 years, providing valuable services including establishing and managing trusts that meet the needs of wealthy individuals and families. Clients that need Trust services to assist them in their philanthropic activities or with the passing on of wealth through the generations, require continuity, experience and reliability, and that is exactly what our team of experts are able to deliver.”
This announcement follows the recent appointments of Naomi Rive as Chief Trust Officer, Fiona Whitehead as Head of New Business, Miles Le Cornu as Head of Private Client Services, David Thompson as Head of Fiduciary investments and Debbie Se bire as Non-Executive Director to the Jersey Trust business.
