Sycomore AM appoints Peladan as Director of Energy Transition and Ecology strategy

Sycomore Asset Management has appointed Jean-Guillaume Peladan, a graduate of the Ecole Polytechnique and Mines ParisTech, as Director of our Energy Transition and Ecology strategy.

The green innovation race is global and in full swing. Measuring the environmental footprint of corporate business models is a growing concern and involves all stakeholders. The French law on energy transition and green growth, which was passed on May 26 this year, now requires institutional investors to declare what measures they have taken to facilitate energy and ecological transition.

This appointment reinforces Sycomore AM’s SRI strategy and reflects our determination to put energy and ecological transition at the centre of our investment strategy.

“We are delighted to welcome Jean-Guillaume”, says Laurent Deltour, Chairman of Sycomore AM. "We believe his experience as a manager in environmental services and as an investor in green innovation projects will be essential in dealing with such complex and varied issues. “

Peladan adds : “I decided to join the Sycomore AM teams because we share the same values and the conviction that a company’s sustainability does not only depend on financial criteria. An eco-efficient business model increasingly gives a company a strong competitive edge.”

As a result, Sycomore AM will in the coming weeks be launching an equity fund invested in companies which make a significant contribution to energy and ecological transition. The investment universe will comprise innovative companies which are anticipating the shift to an economy which is less wasteful with resources, more efficient in its energy consumption and more respectful of the environment.

Peladan, 46, has experience as both a managing director in environmental services and an investor in green innovation. After 16 years in the private sector – Boston Consulting Group and Suez Environnement – he joined ADEME, a governmental body in charge of energy and environmental issues, in 2010, as head of Green Innovation Funding. His mission was to build and manage the organisation in charge of funding innovative green projects with a EUR3.3 billion fund using State aids and equity stakes. After four years of operation, the program has already financed more than 180 projects and 500 companies.

Peladan also lectures on ecological and energy transition and has published a layman’s guide to ecology, “Sur quelle planète vont grandir mes enfants?” (Editions Ovadia, 2009). In 2010, along with Jean-Marc Jancovici, he set up “The Shift Project” think tank and the same year he became the national ecology delegate at the Centre des Jeunes Dirigeants, a position he held until 2012.
