Athena Capital Advisors makes senior executive promotions

Athena Capital Advisors, a registered investment advisor providing investment management, advisory, and external CIO services to private clients and institutions, has promote David Lynch to President of the firm.

Concurrently, Melissa Mattison has been elevated to the role of Chief Operating Officer. Both appointments became effective on 1 July, 2015.

Lynch has been with Athena since 2004. A Managing Partner, Lynch is also the Deputy Chief Investment Officer at Athena, a role he will continue to occupy. He joined Athena from Colorado PERA, where he was the portfolio manager for emerging markets fixed income.

Mattison, meanwhile, joined Athena in 2007 and most recently served as Vice President, Strategic Solutions. Mattison came to Athena from Fidelity Investments, where she served in the global equity-trading group as a buy-side institutional equity trader.

In the role of President, Lynch is succeeding Leonard Lewin. Lewin, who was appointed to Athena’s Board of Directors and named the Vice Chairman, will also maintain a hands-on role as General Counsel and serves in a senior client-facing capacity.

“This is an exciting time at Athena, as these moves reflect our desire to extend our executive team with proven leaders dedicated to building upon Athena’s caring and collaborative culture,” noted Athena Chief Executive and Chief Investment Officer Lisette Cooper. “David recognises and helps drive Athena’s commitment to client service. He also brings to the President’s role a strong understanding of risk management and the craft of portfolio management. As COO, Melissa will continue to build out our robust infrastructure and codify best practices in a way that leads the industry.”

“I’m honored to assume the role of President at Athena,” noted Lynch. “From our clients’ perspective, these moves will leverage the strong company culture and infrastructure already in place to further enhance our capabilities to deliver the comprehensive and customized wealth management offering that is Athena’s trademark.”
