Former Merrill execs reunite to launch Andres Capital Management

Andres Capital Management, an independent SEC registered investment advisor specialising in managing US fixed income portfolios, has opened for business to address the needs of independent financial advisors, family offices, and high-net worth (HNW) investors.

The firm, while providing a broad range of asset allocation and portfolio management capabilities, will leverage the extensive fixed income markets experience and expertise of its leadership team, represented by Bob Andres (pictured), Ted Palatucci, and Fred Offenberg.

Andres Capital is intent on providing its clients with a conservative, yet active and opportunistic investment experience, delivering focused, objective and timely investment solutions.

Andres, who will serve as the firm’s chief investment officer, says: “We believe the next five years will prove difficult for investors, particularly with so few professional money managers having experience managing assets in an environment characterized by broad uncertainty, increasing geo-political risks and the potential for rising interest rates. Our investment team has been tested throughout different business cycles, geo-political events and in both declining and rising rate environments.” He added, “Experience counts.”

Andres has spent the last 40 years as an innovator and leader in the world of fixed income investments with experience across the broad spectrum of both tax-exempt and taxable products.
Highlights of Andres’ Wall Street career include: national sales manager for municipal securities at Kidder Peabody and Merrill Lynch, concurrently, director of taxable credit and underwriting and president of Merrill Lynch Mortgage Capital Corporation. Post- Wall Street, Andres co-founded Martindale Andres & Company, a buy-side investment management organisation, where he functioned as the chief investment officer of fixed income and oversaw USD1.2 billion in client assets. Subsequently, he served as the chief investment strategist for Envestnet, a publicly held company serving 36,000 advisors. He is the founder and editor of the Andres Review, a publication that seeks to provide intellectually honest and impartial economic and market commentary.

Palatucci has played a leading role in the municipal industry for 35 years. In the early 1980’s Palatucci was named managing director of Merrill Lynch’s municipal bond division with responsibility for all trading and underwriting of municipal securities. In reality, Palatucci managed one of the most successful and influential municipal trading and underwriting organisations in the United States. He was also a member of Merrill’s risk management committee. Palatucci has developed a broad base of working relationships within the national municipal industry and is professionally known for his in-depth knowledge of municipal bond structures and valuation metrics essential to evaluating and providing “fair value” to the firm’s municipal clients.

Offenberg has spent the last 35 years as a fixed income bond trader and trading desk manager. He began as a municipal bond trader at Merrill Lynch, quickly rising to manager with responsibility for the national high grade and New York trading groups. Subsequently, he became a director of Merrill’s corporate bond trading division and senior trader with broad leadership responsibilities. Later he became head trader at Chase bank, then successfully built and managed a start-up corporate trading and underwriting group for Chemical bank. As a senior corporate bond trader and manager for the last 25 years, Offenberg understands the dichotomy that tends to favour the institutional investor over the retail investor. He recognises the unique needs of retail clients, and has the experience to level the playing field on their behalf.
