ITPM hires Tristan Edwards as Senior Trading Mentor

The Institute of Trading and Portfolio Management (ITPM) has appointed fund manager and ex-Goldman Sachs and Brevan Howard trader Tristan Edwards as a Senior Trading Mentor in Australia and New Zealand.

Edwards has over 15 years' experience as a Professional Trader. After graduating with a degree in Commerce from the University of Tasmania in 1996, he joined the Commonwealth Department of Finance as part of their 1997 graduate program working on the Australian Commonwealth National Budget.  He soon moved to the private sector and started his career in trading with Goldman Sachs in Melbourne as an Institutional Equities Trader before moving to Goldman Sachs Asset Management (GSAM) as an Equity Analyst and Equity Trader.

After five years at Goldman, Edwards moved to London to work for the Global Macro Hedge Fund Brevan Howard, running their Trading Desk. In this position he was trading all markets and all listed products across all time zones. His focus for this period was largely FOREX and Bonds, as part of a wider remit which included trading everything from soft commodity futures to mortgage backed securities.

During his time at Brevan Howard, Assets Under Management (AUM) grew from USD2 billion to an astonishing USD25 billion. Now with USD40 billion AUM Brevan is one of the world's largest hedge funds. After three years at Brevan, Tristan joined the Hedge Fund Trafalgar Capital as their Asian Portfolio Manager, and was responsible for their USD100m Asian Long/Short portfolio spending his last year with Trafalgar in Hong Kong.

After four successful years at Trafalgar Capital, and posting consecutive double digit returns during the Global Financial Crisis in 2008-2009 (a feat achieved by less than 1 per cent of global managers at the time), Edwards raised USD100 million from external investors to set up Mosaic Asset Management, his own fund out of Singapore. Mosaic was one of the largest hedge fund start up raises of the year in Singapore in 2012. Now in retirement, Edwards works part time consulting for Australian and Asian based hedge funds from Sydney where he now resides with his family.

Edwards new role at the ITPM will involve mentoring Institute Traders on the official Institute Mentoring Programme. He will be helping mostly Australian and New Zealand-based Institute Traders to realise their objectives in becoming consistently profitable long-term and to help build their track records. He will also be helping to manage the Institute's global portfolio in allocating capital to profitable students/traders.

Anton Kreil, Managing Partner of the ITPM, says: "The smart money in Australia and New Zealand have now realised the difference between getting a trading education from charlatans that pretend to be traders and getting it from the Institute. Having Tristan join the Institute as a Senior Trading Mentor will result in a massive basis change in the quality of education provided to Retail Traders in the region and is a huge coup for our current students. His track record as a Professional Trader and Hedge Fund PM is exemplary. Tristan Edwards is the real deal and Retail Traders simply can't plug into his level of experience anywhere else.”
