Frequency of cyber attacks drives growth of cybersecurity industry

Howie Li, Co-Head of Canvas, ETF Securities, has commented on the Talk Talk cyber attack and the opportunities for investors as the cyber security industry continues to innovate in order to combat future attacks.

Li says: “Cyber attacks on businesses are becoming all the more frequent. This most recent attack on Talk Talk has underlined the essential nature of cyber security to protect businesses from loss of data and significant reputational damage.
“The good news is that the cyber security industry is working hard and growing fast to meet this ongoing and increasing need. The global growth prospects of the cyber security sector are compelling and many investors are seeking opportunities to gain exposure to the industry.”
ETF Securities recently listed Europe’s first cyber security ETF named ETFS ISE Cyber Security GO UCITS ETF and has seen USD15million of initial interest.
“While cyber criminals continue to find new ways to attack individuals, companies and governments, cyber security companies will continue to develop the most advanced technologies to defend against this. Opening up the opportunity for investors to gain exposure to the full economic value of the sector is proving to be interesting” Li says.
